Split a recording into named files
Turn chapters, interview topics, or sound samples into a ZIP of individual WAV or MP3 files.
Mark chapters with point labels
For a 90-second recording with three chapters, place the cursor at 0, 30, and 60 seconds and press Cmd/Ctrl+B at each to add a label. Name them Intro, Interview, and Outro. Open Edit → Labels → Edit Labels… to check the times.
Point labels produce files for 0–30, 30–60, and 60–90 seconds in this example. For isolated samples that should end before the next chapter begins, select each sample and add a range label instead.
Inspect the export plan
- Choose File → Export → Export Multiple by Labels….
- Choose numbered labels so the filenames keep the chapter order.
- Choose WAV or MP3, a sample rate, and the MP3 bitrate if applicable.
- Check every filename, start, end, duration, and the total archive estimate.
If the first label starts after zero, enable the option to include the preceding audio when you want an introductory file. Batch export follows labels, not the current waveform selection.
Download and keep the edit
One ZIP downloads when every segment has finished. Unzip it and listen to the first and last seconds of each file. Overlapping range labels deliberately repeat the shared audio in each of their files.
If the archive would exceed 512 MiB, use MP3 or fewer or shorter labels. Save the project so you can revise boundaries, and export the labels as text if you want to exchange them with Audacity.
