Convert mono and stereo channels

Choose a conversion

Open Process → Channel Mixer…. Mix Down to Mono averages the channels. Extract Channel keeps one channel as mono, where 1 is left and 2 is right. Swap Left / Right exchanges the stereo channels. Mono to Stereo duplicates a mono signal into two identical channels.

Averaging a left-only recording halves its level, and opposite-polarity channels can cancel. Duplicating mono does not create stereo width. Preview before committing.

Convert a passage or the whole project

Changing the channel count inside a region splits it at the selection edges and leaves the original channels outside the selection. The dialog shows the input and output channel counts, how many regions are affected, and whether splitting is needed.

The project uses the highest channel count among its regions for playback and export, so every region must be mono before an export is mono. Converting only a short passage leaves a stereo project with centred mono audio in that passage.

Preview and save

Preview plays up to six seconds of the first selected continuous passage. Extraction of a channel that a region lacks is refused before anything changes. Conversion supports cancellation, undo, and Repeat Last Effect. WAV and project saves keep the resulting channel layout; MP3 export is mono or stereo.
