Transpose without changing length
Change Pitch… accepts a shift in semitones from −60 to +60, a percentage, or a pair of reference frequencies, with octave and fifth presets. Preserve vocal formants keeps a voice’s resonances in place while the fundamental moves, which works best on an isolated voice. Try a short passage before processing everything; large shifts change the character of a sound even when the duration stays fixed.
Change duration with or without pitch preservation
Change Tempo… accepts a multiplier, a percentage, a target duration, or a From and To BPM pair, which fill each other in. A multiplier of 1.25 makes a 60-second passage about 48 seconds long while preserving pitch. When the selected regions share a detected BPM it is entered for you.
Change Speed and Pitch… offers a multiplier, percentage, and target duration, and reports the pitch change in semitones. A speed of 2× halves the duration and raises pitch by an octave. Choose it when the linked change is the sound you want.
Review the new timing
Duration-changing effects shift the audio that follows and remap the selection, cursor, and transcript timing; labels stay at their absolute times, so check them afterwards. All three effects run locally, remember their last applied settings, and support cancellation, undo, and Repeat Last Effect. Listen to the joins on either side of the processed passage.
