Record and prepare an interview
Choose a microphone, capture a take, and make a reliable handoff to editing.
Make a short test first
Choose File → Record…, allow microphone access, and pick the intended device from the list. Speak at your normal volume while watching the meter. If the input clips, reduce the microphone or interface gain and test again.
Record a short test, stop, and play it back. Check both voices and any left/right placement before recording the full conversation.
Choose a recording destination
For a long take, choose File on disk… in the destination menu when your browser offers it and pick a WAV file to write to. Otherwise record to memory and plan around the 20-minute limit per take, stopping and starting a new take when needed. Leave a few seconds of room tone at the start or end in case you need a noise profile later.
Stop normally so the file is finalised. The take is inserted at the cursor as a region. Disk recording keeps the capture out of memory, but editing the finished take still loads it.
Save before the cleanup pass
Save an .aeproject copy. If the interview was captured in Voice Recorder, use File → Open from Voice Recorder… instead; any word-level transcript it already has comes along.
Add labels for topics or speakers with Cmd/Ctrl+B, then choose waveform editing or the transcript panel for your first content pass.
