Effects and analysis
Effects, fades, and level controls
Target the right audio, set gain, normalize peaks, and repeat successful processing.

Choose what to process
Select time for a passage, select regions for whole clips, or clear both to process all audio. Most effects use that order and name the target in their dialog. Existing region gain, fades, and reversal are included in processing. Long operations show progress with a Cancel button; cancelled work is discarded without changing the project.
Use Preview where a dialog offers it. Previews render up to six seconds of the first continuous selected passage, not the whole project, and stop when you change a setting or close the dialog. After applying, listen in the timeline and use Undo to compare.
Amplify and normalize
Process → Amplify… changes level in decibels, shows the estimated peak of the result, and refuses to clip unless you allow it. Normalize… adjusts the selected audio to a target sample peak, −1 dBFS by default, with optional DC-offset removal and linked or independent channels.
Linked normalization preserves the stereo balance. Normalizing a selection as a whole preserves the relative levels of the regions inside it. Peak normalization is not a loudness target in LUFS and does not even out phrases; use the Compressor for that.
Fades, silence, polarity, and reverse
Fade In and Fade Out apply a continuous fade across the selected passage. Region fade handles and Region properties shape individual regions instead. Invert flips polarity, Reverse plays the audio backwards, and Silence Audio (Cmd/Ctrl+L) replaces sound with silence while keeping its duration.
To insert new quiet time, use Generate → Silence…. To shorten existing pauses, use Truncate Silence….
Repeat the last effect
Process → Repeat Last Effect (Cmd/Ctrl+R) applies the last successful effect with the same settings to the current target, and the menu item is renamed after that effect. Failed, cancelled, or unchanged operations do not replace it, and generators are never repeated.
Apply and Repeat each create one undo step. Effects keep the time selection afterwards so you can listen or chain another effect; duration-changing effects remap the selection and transcript timing. Save Project when you want to keep the result.
