Add and edit labels

Place the cursor for a point label or select time for a range label, then choose Edit → Labels → Add Label at Selection… (Cmd/Ctrl+B) and type the text. Labels appear in a lane above the waveform. Click a label or press Space on it to restore its point or range, double-click or press F2 to edit it, and press Delete to remove only that label. Alt+Left and Alt+Right jump between labels.

Edit Labels… searches all labels, shows 50 per page, and lets you rename, move, and resize them with exact times. Labels stay at their absolute times when audio changes, support undo, and are saved with autosave and project files. A project holds up to 10,000 labels of up to 255 characters each.

Exchange labels with Audacity

Import Labels… and Export Labels… use Audacity’s tab-separated text format: start seconds, end seconds, and text on each line. Imports append every valid label as one undo step; a malformed line rejects the whole file, and files are limited to 8 MiB. The label file contains annotations only, not audio.

Understand which audio gets exported

Choose File → Export → Export Multiple by Labels…. A point label exports from its position to the next label or the end of the project. A range label exports its own span, even when it overlaps another range. The current waveform selection does not limit the export.

Optionally include the audio before the first label as its own file. Labels outside the audio and ranges too short to hold one sample are skipped; ranges past the end are clipped. Inspect the preview before downloading.

Choose filenames and format

Name files from the label text, from numbered labels, or with a numbered prefix. The preview lists names, times, durations, file count, and the estimated archive size, 50 files per page. Duplicate names get suffixes and unsupported filename characters are removed.

Choose 16-bit PCM WAV or MP3 at 128, 192, 256, or 320 kbps, and a sample rate or Automatic. WAV keeps every project channel; MP3 keeps mono or the first two channels and supports 32, 44.1, or 48 kHz.

Download the completed archive

The editor renders every file and downloads one ZIP when all are complete. Cancel or Escape discards the pending archive without changing the project. The archive is limited to 512 MiB; use MP3, or fewer or shorter labels, when the preview exceeds it. Successful settings are remembered.
