Find your way around the editor
Learn what each part of the window does, from the menu bar to the level meter, and how mouse, touch, and keyboard reach the same controls.

The menu bar
Seven menus hold every command: File for opening, recording, inserting, saving, and exporting; Edit for clipboard, labels, splitting, trimming, and zero crossings; Transport for playback; Process for effects; Generate for tones, noise, and silence; Analyze for spectrum plots and beat detection; and View for zoom and the transcript panel.
Inside Puter the menus appear in the Puter menu bar; everywhere else the editor draws its own menu bar with the same items and keyboard navigation. Unavailable items are dimmed until the required audio, selection, clipboard, or labels exist.
The waveform view and the overview strip
The large waveform shows the current zoom window with a time ruler below it. Click to move the cursor, drag to select time, Shift-click to extend the selection, and drag either edge of a selection to adjust it. Region edges carry small trim handles that drag the audible edge, and round fade handles that set the region’s fade-in and fade-out lengths. Scrolling the mouse wheel over the waveform zooms toward the pointer.
The overview strip beneath it shows the whole project with each region as its own tile. Click a tile to select that region and move the cursor there, Shift-click to add or remove tiles from the selection, drag sideways to pan the waveform view, and drag up or down to zoom. A viewport indicator appears briefly whenever you zoom or pan.
The selection toolbar
The row under the waveform shows the selection’s Start, End, and Length in seconds; type new times to move a boundary exactly. Beside them, Zero crossings nudges the cursor or selection edges to nearby rising zero crossings, Trim keeps only the selected audio, and Fit selection and Fit project change the zoom. A status message next to these controls explains the outcome of the last action.
The Appearance picker in the same area switches between System, Light, and Dark themes.
The transport bar
At the bottom, Undo and Redo sit on the left. The centre holds Snap settings, Loop selection, Skip to start, Play or Pause, Skip to end, Record, and Region properties, with the current position and total length above them in minutes, seconds, and hundredths. On the right, a level meter reports the peak and RMS level of what is playing on a scale from −48 to 0 dBFS.
Shift-click Play to play a selection once regardless of the loop setting, and Cmd/Ctrl-click Play to preview a cut.
Floating actions
Context-sensitive buttons appear directly on the waveform. After you drag a time selection, a menu offers Cut, Copy, and Create region. When regions are selected in the overview strip, the menu offers Split, Merge, and Delete. When the clipboard holds audio and nothing is selected, a Paste button follows the cursor.
Labels appear in their own lane above the waveform. The transcript panel, when open, sits beside the waveform and has its own controls for language, model, and filler words.
