Fit a clip to a target duration
Shorten or extend audio while choosing whether its pitch should stay the same.
Decide what should stay constant
Suppose a 60-second clip must fit 48 seconds. Select its exact time range with the toolbar fields. Use Process → Change Tempo… if the pitch must not change, or Change Speed and Pitch… if a faster, higher sound is intended.
Enter the target
Type a 48-second target duration, or a multiplier of 1.25: 60 ÷ 48 = 1.25. That is a 25% speed increase, not a 25% reduction in duration. A longer result needs a multiplier below 1.
For music, Change Tempo also accepts a From and To BPM pair, and it fills in the source tempo when the selected regions have a detected beat grid. Test a short section first if the change is large.
Check transitions and export
Apply and confirm the new duration in the selection toolbar. Listen for artifacts in voices, drums, and sustained notes, and check the join with the audio that follows, which has moved. Labels stay at their original times, so adjust them if they marked the processed passage.
If only the key needs changing, use Change Pitch instead. Save the project and export.
