Keep keyboard focus in mind
A text field, dropdown, open dialog, or the record panel takes priority over editor shortcuts, so Space types or opens a menu rather than playing. Click the waveform to return focus to the editor before using single-letter shortcuts. Menu items show their shortcuts and stay dimmed until the required selection exists; Trim and Preview Cut, for example, need a time selection.
Menus themselves are keyboard-navigable: arrow keys move between menus and items, Enter activates, and Escape closes.
