Save and reopen project copies

File → Save Project… (Cmd/Ctrl+S) downloads an .aeproject file containing the source audio, region edits, labels, transcripts, selection, cursor, and snap settings. File → Open Project… (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+O) restores it exactly. Undo history and the clipboard are not stored.

Use dated filenames for important revisions. Opening a project or choosing New Project replaces the current arrangement, so save first. Project files are for this editor only; they are not Audacity .aup3 files. Use WAV or MP3 to share audio.

Understand local autosave

The editor saves every change to this browser’s storage a couple of seconds after you make it, and reopening the site in the same browser profile restores the project, including processed audio at full precision. Autosave is not a cloud backup and does not sync between devices or browsers.

Clearing site data, private browsing, a different browser, or storage limits can prevent restoration. Keep a downloaded project copy for anything you need to retain, and treat undo history as a session tool rather than a backup.

If the project does not return

1. Open the same site in the same browser profile where you edited; the editor shows “Restoring last session…” while it loads.
2. If you saved a project copy, choose Open Project… and select it.
3. If only an audio export remains, open that audio and start a new arrangement.

Do not clear browser data as a first troubleshooting step when the autosaved copy is your only one.
