Is Online Audio Editor free?
Yes. Every editing, recording, and export feature is free, and there are no watermarks, trials, or paid tiers. A free Puter account is optional: it unlocks cloud storage and sync, but you don't need one to edit and export.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs entirely in your browser on Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox. Open the page, drop in an audio file, and start editing. If you want it on your desktop or home screen you can install it as a PWA, and it keeps working offline after the first load.
Do I need to sign up or create an account?
No. The editor opens straight from this page with no sign-in. You're only asked to sign in to Puter if you choose to open or save a file in Puter's cloud drive, or to use transcription.
Is my audio uploaded to a server?
Not for editing. Decoding, cutting, effects, and export all happen locally in your browser, and projects auto-save to your browser's local storage. Audio leaves your device only when you choose to: saving to your Puter drive, or running transcription, which sends the audio to Puter's speech-to-text service.
What audio formats can I import and export?
Import MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, or OGG. Export as MP3 (320 kbps) or WAV (16-bit PCM). Pick MP3 for sharing and small files; pick WAV when you need lossless quality or plan to keep editing elsewhere.
Are there watermarks, file size limits, or export limits?
No watermarks, no export cap, and no upload quota. Files are decoded in memory, so the practical limit is your device's RAM. Hour-long podcast episodes are fine on a typical laptop.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. It runs in iOS Safari and Android Chrome with full touch support for selecting, dragging, and trimming regions. A larger screen is easier for fine waveform work, but nothing is desktop-only.
How do I cut, split, or trim audio?
Click the waveform to place the cursor and press Split, or drag across the waveform to select a range and press Delete, Cut, or Copy. Drag a region's edges to trim it and drag the region itself to reorder. With snap on, edits land on beats, whole seconds, or region boundaries.
Can I add fade in and fade out?
Yes. Select a region and set a fade in or fade out length, or use the fade handles on the region itself. Other processing includes normalize, reverse, per-region gain, and insert silence. Everything previews in real time and can be undone.
Can I remove background noise or change pitch and speed?
Not yet. Online Audio Editor focuses on cutting, arranging, levels, and fades. For cleaning up speech, transcribe the timeline and use the filler-word sweep to remove every "um" and "uh" in one step, and use normalize and gain to even out levels.
Can I record audio with it?
Yes. Pick any microphone or audio interface, watch the input meter, and the take lands on the timeline as a region. In Chrome and Edge you can record straight to a file on your disk, so length is limited only by disk space. Other browsers record into memory, up to 20 minutes per take.
What does "non-destructive" mean?
Splits, merges, trims, fades, and rearrangements are stored as a project. Your source audio file is never modified, and every change can be undone. Audio is only rendered when you export.
