Why we built it

Web apps caught up. Editors didn't.

You shouldn't need to install a desktop app from 2002 just to trim a podcast intro. We rebuilt the experience from scratch — fast, focused, and browser-native.

What's inside

Built around the way you actually edit.

The boring stuff is automated. The precise stuff is exact. Everything else stays out of your way.

Zoom that follows your eyes.

Pinch, scroll, or scrub — the waveform stays sharp from the whole song down to a single sample. The cursor stays where you're looking, every time.

Snap to the beat. Literally.

The editor analyses the track and places markers at every beat. Snap your cuts to beats, seconds, or region boundaries — precise edits in one click instead of ten.

Region-based, non-destructive.

Split, merge, trim, and rearrange — your source audio is never touched. Try ten ideas, undo eight, keep the two that work. Nothing is permanent until you export.

Export as MP3 or WAV.

One menu, one click. Render the full track or just a selected region — locally to disk or directly to your Puter cloud.

Beat-aware snap

Cut on the downbeat without counting frames.

Toggle snap to beats, seconds, or boundaries. The cursor magnetically locks to the rhythm of the track — drag a region edge and it lands exactly where you'd want it.

  • Automatic beat detection on import
  • Toggle snap modes independently
  • Override with a modifier key when you need exact control

Export, simply

Two formats. Six options. Zero confusion.

Export the full track or just your selected region. Send it straight to your Puter cloud, or download to disk. No render queue, no codec dialog.

  • Export to MP3 (320 kbps) or WAV (24-bit)
  • Export selected region only — perfect for clips
  • One-tap save to Puter cloud, or local disk

Built on Puter

A real desktop, on the open web.

Audio Editor is a Puter app. Puter is an open-source, browser-based personal cloud — your files, apps, and storage, all in a tab. No install, no lock-in, no servers to set up.

Your cloud, your files

Audio you edit lives in your own Puter drive. Open from cloud, save back to cloud — same files, same place, every device.

Open source & private

Puter is open source. Self-host it, audit it, fork it. Your audio never leaves your browser unless you ask it to.

Instant, every time

No installer. No update prompts. The editor loads as a webpage and runs at native speed, on any modern browser.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Is Audio Editor really free?
Yes. The editor is free to use and runs entirely in your browser. A free Puter account unlocks cloud storage, sync, and shared files — but you don't need one to edit and export.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Open the page, drop in an audio file, and start editing. There's nothing to download.
What audio formats can I import and export?
Most common formats import (MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG). Exports go out as MP3 (up to 320 kbps) or WAV (up to 24-bit).
Is my audio uploaded to a server?
Editing happens locally in your browser. Files only sync to the cloud if you choose to save them there via Puter.
How does beat detection work?
When you import a track, the editor analyses it and places beat markers along the timeline. You can snap edits to those markers, or to seconds and region boundaries — toggle each independently.
What does "non-destructive" mean?
Splits, merges, trims, and rearrangements are stored as a project — your source audio file is never modified. Undo any change at any time. Render only when you export.
